re: small cool spaces. this is what it says on my entry page:

Your entry has been submitted and is awaiting review by our editorial staff. We will contact you if it is chosen for the contest.
So now I wait. And if they don’t pick mine, I will hold my own my own contest right here and I will be the judge and I will win and I will give myself a prize. Just you wait. (You can play, too. Prizes for everyone!)

If I had the money, I would buy this custom PS1. It haunts me. As does Proenza Schouler’s twitter that just today told me they had the exact one I want back in stock. Sigh.

You guys. I am exhausted. Like wishing-my-mom-was-here-to-bring-me-hot-chocolate-and-tell-me-it-is-all-going-to-be-ok exhausted. #fatcat and I have taken a break to lounge on the couch for a bit tonight, even though he keeps stealing my spot whenever i get up. While I was lounging, I started knitting what may or may not turn out to be a vest. Too soon to tell. I can’t wait to finish cleaning and entering #smallcoolspaces but for now, I am relaxing and enjoying my (almost) finished home. Tomorrow, I will get back to this list:

  • Make a black and gray dress
  • knit a neon yellow vest
  • enter my apartment in the apartment therapy small cool spaces contest
  • Louboutin-up a pair of shoes a la spikes and spray paint

which I think I will have to make an April list, instead of a two-week list. THIS IS THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT. There are just not enough hours for me to sleep and work and play and get this all done. But soon! I will get to it all soon enough. And it will be lovely.

UPDATE: ok, i couldn’t help it. I cleaned. So hopefully will be able to take pictures and enter tomorrow after my dreaded dentist appointment.

SO. Did you figure out what I’m gonna make yet? Let’s take a quiz. One of these things is not on my agenda for the next two weeks:

  • Make a black and gray dress
  • knit a neon yellow vest
  • my own special color nail polish (to contrast perfectly with neon yellow vest)
  • enter my apartment in the apartment therapy small cool spaces contest
  • Louboutin-up a pair of shoes a la spikes and spray paint

What was your guess??

OK, I’ll tell you. The nail polish. I’m not going to make my own nail polish, but now that I’ve thought of it, I really should figure out how and go ahead and do it, too.

I think I might have reached a little high in aiming to get this all done in the next two weeks, but I’ve made some progress and have (almost) all my supplies.

see progress:

“that style can be healing. If you wear beautiful things and live a creative life you will feel better and be more joyful.” — Advanced Style blog

I want to be these women.

Anna

My favorite quotes from the Wall Street Journal article on Ms. Wintour.

  • “She didn’t need my authority to do it—she has a remarkable ability to impose her will. If I had had reservations, she probably would have gone ahead anyway.”
  • During a trip to China last fall, she was asked during a press conference whether she was really like that. “It’s true, of course, that I beat all my assistants, lock them in a cupboard and don’t pay them,” she deadpanned.
  • In 1967, 17-year-old Anna dropped out of school to join London’s wild fashion dance. (17 years old! dropped out of school! now is one of the most powerful business women in the world!)
  • Grace Mirabella, then Vogue’s editor, asked Wintour what job she would like if she came to the magazine. “Your job,” Wintour is said to have replied without blinking.
  • Wintour concedes she might have pushed the point there: “I’m not terribly proud of putting the Spice Girls on the cover,” she says
  • She threw all of Italy into a tizzy last year when it was discovered she would spend only four days in Milan during February’s fashion week. Emergency meetings were called, designers frantically demanded to reschedule their shows and every one scrambled to squeeze 88 runway shows into 70 hours to accommodate her abbreviated stay.
  • Her own CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, which raises millions for young American designers, has become something of a model in Europe. She got the idea in 2001, when the World Trade Center disaster disrupted New York’s fashion week, leaving young designers financially stranded. The fund now has a $10 million endowment, and has launched similar programs in Milan and London.
  • At a screening of “The Devil Wears Prada,” based on a roman à clef by a former Wintour assistant, she wore Prada (she also wore Prada on the cover shot. perhaps a little wink to the idea?)

She’s amazing. Also, I saw her once in real life. On Fashion’s Night Out. She walked in front of me with her entourage and her giant sunglasses, even though it was nighttime. It was just as awesome as you’d expect.
